But how do you know which type of home flooring to choose? You could visit our Norwich showroom and consult with a member of our team, or you could simply read this handy guide.
Here are the advantages and disadvantages of different types of home flooring to help you make the perfect decision for your home…
Advantages: carpets provide a warm, cosy, and comfortable atmosphere for your home. They can also act as both noise and heat insulators – if this particularly appeals to you, aim for a thickly-padded, dense carpet. Finally, carpet comes available in a wide range of styles. You can choose from a variety of patterns and designs to choose a carpet which best suits the aesthetics of your home.
Disadvantages: carpets, unfortunately, are not particularly durable and are susceptible to wear and tear. Easily absorbing stains, carpets take a lot of effort to clean. We recommend you vacuum at least once a week and deep-clean your carpet once a year. This prevents it from looking worn and dirty. But don’t let this put you off buying a carpet – professional carpet cleaning companies can easily help with any maintenance!
Advantages: laminate flooring offers a wipe clean surface perfect for a kitchen or bathroom, allowing you to easily wipe away any spills or stains. Therefore, it’s extremely easy to maintain – simply wipe with a damp cloth when needed. Compared to other kitchen flooring (such as stone) laminate flooring is far warmer and softer underfoot. Laminate is also far more affordable and cheaper to install than other flooring.
Disadvantages: sadly, laminate flooring can be vulnerable to staining or warping from standing water. While it is less expensive, cheaper laminates may need to be replaced within 10 years. This means you may not as high a return on your investment. Also, some argue laminate does not look as authentic as hardwood.
Advantages: the most appealing thing about vinyl is its price. It is extremely cheap and easy to install. Its durability is also incredibly high and, much like laminate flooring, is easy to clean and water resistant. Vinyl flooring is very durable for its low cost, standing up well to foot traffic, and can can also muffle the amount of noise in a room. Vinyl is also very soft and comfortable underfoot.
Disadvantages: while vinyl flooring is available in a variety of patterns and colours, it can become faded with too much sun exposure or damaged by extreme temperatures. This is why it is better suited to indoor installation. Sharp objects can easily gouge vinyl flooring, while heavy objects can also heavily dent it.
Advantages: Karndean design flooring is inspired by natural wood, designed to look as authentic as the real thing. It’s grain and knot details are just like wooden flooring but without the practical drawbacks. Karndean’s PU coating means it is very easy to clean. It prevents germs and bacteria from getting into any cracks. It is therefore extremely low maintenance and durable. In fact, its protected against everyday wear, including scuffs, spills and high heels!
Disadvantages: due to its customizable features, Karndean can be quite expensive to buy and have fitted.
